ACT OF COURAGE

Captain Naveed (Sitara-e-Jurat)

On 21st April 1989, Indian Army advanced towards the Chomak Peak in Siachen Glacier to capture it. Pakistan Army had to defend its land, time would have run out if infantry was sent, nor the infantry could be sent by helicopter because it was not possible to land the helicopter on the snow. There was only one way, to sling a soldier below the helicopter and drop him at the peak. No one had ever traveled by this technique as this technique was only used to drop supplies.

But today the country had called. Time had come to fulfil the commitment made to Allah and his messenger Mohammed (SAW). Capt. Naveed was the lucky person who was selected among many volunteers. In -40 degree centigrade braving towards the strong winds and slinged below the helicopter, Naveed reached the peak. After reaching the peak, he offered two rakat nafal prayers and gave an Azaan for the success of his mission. He then established the highest post of the world at the height of 21400 ft. After this, Naveed not only stopped the Indian attack but forced them to retreat.
